NRL Preliminary Final 1 Hilites - Sandon Smith - Newcastle Knights
Sandon Smith produced 2 unforgettable tries as underdogs Newcastle stunned Penrith 22-14. Trailing 14-10 and a man down after a first-half send-off, the halfback took a quick tap on halfway and raced away with the Panthers’ backs turned. His final-minute intercept sealed the Knights’ first grand final since 2001, a year after finishing last. A finals performance for the ages.
NRL Preliminary Final 2 Hilites - Mark Nawaqanitawase - Sydney Roosters
Mark Nawaqanitawase lit up Suncorp Stadium to fire the Roosters into their first grand final since 2019. The winger ran for 343 metres, scored 2 tries including a 90-metre intercept and produced an outrageous overhead flick for Robert Toia while being bundled towards touch, with the Bunker ruling he stayed in the field. He snatched a second try late in the 36-20 win.
NRLW Preliminary Final 1 Hilites - Tarryn Aiken - Sydney Roosters
Tarryn Aiken has her grand final shot at last. The Roosters halfback forced an error to spark Rima Butler’s try, then spotted a gap in the 68th minute and surged through to seal a 20-10 preliminary final win over Canberra at Allianz Stadium. After missing last year’s decider, she heads to Accor Stadium chasing premiership redemption.
NRLW Preliminary Final 2 Hilites - Jesse Southwell - Brisbane Broncos
Jesse Southwell steered the Broncos into a fifth NRLW grand final with a composed display in the 20-8 preliminary final win over the Titans. The halfback ran for 122 metres, produced 2 try assists and 2 line-break assists and kicked 2 goals as Brisbane raced to a 20-4 half-time lead, setting up a grand final rematch with the Roosters.
